Music channels

1. Who is the target audience?
A)MTV:
Mtv is mostly aimed for teenagers and young adults for 18+ as the shows dramas and music suitable for teens and mainstream music. Also after the watershed the show airs swearing, language and sexual content.
B)VH1:
The audience for VH1 is mainly targeting an older audience as the songs are not in the recent charts and shows hits from before the 80's era.
C)Scuzz:
Scuzz is ideally aimed for lovers of rock and heavy metal music and doesn't particularly aim for a certain age group and aims for every individual who is interested in that kind of genre of music.
D)Kiss:
The audience for Kiss is for the genre of R&B and mainstream music lovers. After 9pm Kiss have a section called Kisstory which shows more club music.

2.What type of music does the channel play and why?
A)MTV:
Attracts a wider range audience, but still sticks to airing mainstream music for its teenage audience, which helps it in being one of the most sucessful music businesses.
B)Vh1:
Vh1 is one of the last standing music videos which caters to an older audience as many of the other music channels wish to aim for teenage audiences unlike Vh1.
C) Scuzz:
Targets the rock or heavy metal audiences and does the complete opposite to Mtv as scuzz only applies to their niche audience.
D)Kiss:
Aims to attract a wider audience with their variety of music and usually only plays music in the following couple of years.

3. Identify artists that feature on a regular basis
A)MTV:
One Direction, Justin Bieber and Katy Perry- commercial artists who usually are loved by a wide range audience.
B)Vh1:
Madonna, Wham and Queen- These are very iconic artists who are very memorable in the 70s and onwards era which helps to target an older audience.
C) Scuzz:
Greenday, Guns & Roses and Blink 182- all artists are greatly admired by people who enjoy rock culture.
D)Kiss:
Usher, Ashanti and P diddy- Kiss tends to play different types of genres of music but usually plays artists who are tend not to be in the charts nowadays and are key to keep to playing R&B or pop music as that is what their listening wish to hear.

4. How is the channel used as a form of branding?
A)MTV:
Mtv is one channel which really does it best in branding as they air not only music but also their own shows such as sweet 16, teenage mom and Punk'd ext. Also they have their own award shows which you can vote for to help get your favourite artist to win.
B)Kiss:
Brands itself as it plays the same kind of music for its listeners and this helps with their reputation of highly anticipated music and keeps its fans happy.

5. How does the logo help to appeal to the target audience?
A)MTV:
The logo for Mtv really reaches out to its adult/teen audiences with its black and white colours which helps to give a more mature feel which wouldnt give the same effect if it would be colourful. But the 'tv' at the end has a more funky text which would appeal to the younger demographic.
B)Vh1:
Has a very 60's and retro feel to it as it excels in its use of bright colours and so will attract an older audience as they feel relatable to the retro vibe.
C)Scuzz:
Scuzz really aims to impress with its metallic written font and also relates to its choice of rock music with the title as it is hard hitting.
D)Kiss:
The writing of kiss I feel aims more directly at its teenage viewers as it makes a statement as it is bold and defines.

6. Why do you think Mtv is broken down into different types of channels (base, hits, dance, rock, classic?)
To appeal to a wider demographic and show music that requires to all their audiences taste, which in their case helps in engaging and be such a popular channel.

7. Why do think music channels are important in appealing to its targeted audience?
Because if they didnt play the music their targeted audeince likes then they would just go to another competing music channel as they would not wish to listen to music which they do not enjoy.

8.  Why do you think their are a variety of music channels?
Mainly because trying to require to everyones tastes will be a lot more trickier to sell to audiences, compared to sticking to one type of genre of music as a whole will be much too broad to sell.

9.What have you learned from analysing music channels and how will it help you in your own production?
I have learned on how different music channels really are, and how Mtv has subsidiary labels to appeal to variety of their fans which is mainly commecial artists but mainly R&B. This will come in very helpful when doing my group prouduction as we can all take on board where our song would be played, what our demographic audience will be and if we want to make our video steoreotypical to the genre of song.

  1. This post needs to be rewritten so that each music channel is separate to the others so that it makes it easier to read.

You also need to include the channel logos and make your analysis more detailed by referring to specific examples
